We welcome you into our home because you have elected to come and join us. We in turn will endeavor to do our very best to ensure you will never have cause to regret this decision. You, like all our other residents, will be treated as an equal and important member of this small community. We recognise your rights to independence and self-determination, therefore those who live here will, as far as possible, be involved in planning their day to day programmes of care and recreation. We value the uniqueness of each of the residents who join us and seek to satisfy everyone’s preferences.
Life with us should be a positive experience. Residents are encouraged and, indeed, supported to do more for themselves. Our staff’s aim is to offer everyone an improved quality of life by enabling them to exercise more control and choice, and also to be an active member of the community. We aim to respect and value personal and cultural differences and try to help people realize their potential.
We want to care for you and recognise that to succeed we must meet your physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. We seek to ensure your comfort, security, dignity and fulfillment. Comfort is afforded by providing whatever care is necessary. Staff looks after the needs of the residents, much in the same way, as they would wish their own elderly parents/grandparents looked after. Dignity is promoted through respect for rights. The potential for each individual is maximised, and so self-care is encouraged wherever feasible.
To assist you to lead a purposeful life, entering our homes does not mean you have given up your rights, choices and aspirations. We believe this is the time for you to experiment with some of your long held desires and recreational ambitions, which you put off for another day. The time has come; the opportunities are here, so indulge in them. You are now in a position to express these and get help from staff and friends around you to make them a reality.
Together we will make this your home too. As you become more and more familiar with your new surroundings and get to know staff and residents you will be encouraged to contribute to new ideas with a view to improving internal and external environments. You may also involve your relatives and friends to help you decide on these matters.
We believe that staff is one of the home’s valuable resource in enhancing the quality of life for the residents. In attempting to fulfill our aim, our staff are trained to remember that you are an individual and therefore entitled to privacy, preservation of your dignity, and protection of your basic human rights.
