Care Commission Report

Nightingale House has been awarded a grade 4 rating in a report by the Care Commission, the national organisation responsible for regulating and improving care services in Scotland.
The report findings have been welcomed by staff and Nightingale’s new management team, which has invested significantly in enhancing services at the 50 bed home, following its acquisition in January last year by young Scots entrepreneur, Arti Poddar.
Arti Poddar, (26), grew up in the care sector having volunteered from a young age at her parents’ care home business, Lambhill Court which operates four homes in Glasgow. In 2006, she took over as operations director at Lambhill Court with ultimate responsibility for over 400 residents and 300 employees. During this time she received wide recognition for her efforts to progress quality care for the elderly winning several awards including, Business Woman of the Year finalist in the Scots Women of the Year Awards 2008, and Young Achiever of the Year finalist in the UK Asian Business Awards 2007.
In 2008 she acquired her own care home business, Sterling Care Homes Limited, which owned Nightingale House in Mansion House Road. During the last twelve months Ms Poddar has been assisted by her management team to introduce several improvement programmes, which have resulted in the new grades awarded by the Care Commission.
Commenting Arti Poddar said, “We are committed to providing a homely environment where our residents are respected, and feel content and secure without compromising their independence. These new grades are testimony to the commitment and dedication of our staff and reflect the views of our residents and their relatives. We are by no means complacent but it is welcome feedback following our continued efforts over the past year.”
The Care Commission reported comments from residents included:
“The staff are very friendly and very caring”, “the food is good” and “the staff are always very helpful.”
